The 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), which saw 602,457 candidates writing the examinations nationwide, ends today.
In the Oti region,11,832 candidates were registered for the exams with 6,385 being boys and 5,477 being girls writing at 46 centres in the region.
In the Krachi Nchumuru District,1078 candidates were registered. Of the number, a few were physically challenged persons.
Master Tutemba Appiah Kwadwo, a physically challenged person who is part of the 2023 batch of pupils completing their basic education today, has appealed to government to make teaching and learning simple for the physically challenged persons.
When the news team visited the centre, Master Tutemba Appiah Kwadwo had been separated from other candidates writing this year’s BECE. He was seen taking his Mathematics paper at the ground floor alone whilst other candidates sitting the same exams were at the top floor.
He was visibly struggling to draw in a graph book because of his condition.
When he spoke to the NEWS team, he said, among all the subjects taught, mathematics is the most difficult one for him but, he believes he will pass the paper regardless of his challenge.
He indicated that although Senior High School is free, he will need all the support to further his education and therefore appealed to government, NGOs and individuals to come to his aid.
He says, he hopes to be an IT specialist in future and to realize his dreams, he will need the support of government and philanthropists.
Tears were seen in his eyes when the news team was having close chat with him.
