The Ghana Police Service has suspended a police officer after a video surfaced showing him dragging a suspect on the ground during an arrest.
The video, which was filmed in Dadease, near Kumawu in the Ashanti Region, shows the officer dragging the suspect by the neck while the suspect is on the ground. The suspect appears to be struggling to breathe and is being dragged for several meters.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident and have said that the officer will be taken through the due process of the law.
The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has also spoken to the victim’s mother and assured her of a thorough investigation.
The incident has sparked outrage in Ghana, with many people calling for the officer to be held accountable for his actions. Some people have also questioned the use of excessive force by the police.
The police have said that they are committed to investigating all allegations of police brutality and that they will take appropriate action against any officers who are found to have violated the law.
