Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale took to social media to mark his daughter’s 13th birthday with an emotional message.
In the post, Shatta Wale recalled the time when his baby mama got pregnant with his daughter, Cherissa. He said that he was “damn broke” at the time, but he knew that he wanted to keep the baby.
“I remember when your mother said she was pregnant,” Shatta Wale wrote. “I was damn broke. But something in me said, ‘Tell her to keep it.’”
The ‘Dancehall Commando” went on to say that he owes his daughter’s mother a debt of gratitude for carrying and raising their child.
He said that they have since “gone through stress” to get to where they are today, but they have managed to find a way to co-parent Cherissa and make her happy.
“Even though we can’t be together, we have found a way to make you a happy child,” Shatta Wale wrote. “Say thank you mummy every day because you have a very sweet mum, caring and respectful…just wait for your special gift when you are 16 years old.”
Shatta Wale’s message has been met with mixed reactions online. Some fans have praised him for being a good father, while others have accused him of using his daughter to throw shade at his rival, Sarkodie.
Sarkodie is also a dancehall artiste who has a daughter who is around the same age as Cherissa. In the past, the two artists have had a public feud, and some fans believe that his message was a thinly veiled diss at the ’Try Me’ rapper.
Only time will tell whether Shatta Wale’s message was intended as a diss at Sarkodie. However, there is no doubt that it was an emotional and heartfelt message from a father to his daughter.
