Ghanaian gospel group, Daughters of Glorious Jesus, says careful planning and prudent financial decisions over the years have positioned them to avoid relying on public appeals for financial support in the future.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on Footprint TV, group member Edna Sarpong said the trio has intentionally prepared for life beyond active music ministry, ensuring they will not become financially dependent should they retire from singing.
According to her, the group’s more than 35-year journey in the gospel music industry has taught them the importance of planning for the future and making wise decisions with their earnings. She noted that those close to the group are aware of the deliberate steps they have taken over the years to secure their future and avoid financial hardship.
“In all humility, respect, and by the grace of God, there is no way Daughters of Glorious Jesus or any member of the group will ever have to beg for financial support if we stop singing because we have prepared and put things in place while we are still working,” she said
Edna Sarpong further disclosed that the group becomes saddened and heartbroken whenever they see fellow veteran musicians and actors on television or radio appealing for financial assistance, especially during periods of ill health or difficult circumstances.
While acknowledging that God has been faithful to them throughout their ministry, Edna stressed that divine blessings should be matched with responsible planning. She encouraged fellow musicians and creatives to make preparations while they are still active in their careers rather than focusing solely on luxurious lifestyles.
“Not everything is about wearing expensive dresses and shoes when you haven’t prepared for unforeseen circumstances,” she said.
Edna added that although the truth may be difficult to hear, it is important for musicians to start putting measures in place to secure their future so they do not find themselves in financial distress later in life. She reiterated that while God blesses His people, creatives also have a responsibility to plan wisely, invest in their future and build a financial foundation that will sustain them long after their active careers come to an end.
The musician also emphasized that gospel musicians should live in a way that reflects the messages they preach through their songs.
“As a musician, the Word of God and the songs you sing to encourage people must be evident in your life. People will even question what the God you preach about has done for you if your life does not reflect it,” she said.
