Dreams FC held Zamalek to a 0-0 draw at the Cairo Inteernational Stadium in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup semifinals

Zamalek boss Jose Gomes is unsatisfied with the overall performance of his team against Dreams FC in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup semifinal clash.

The former African Champions were held to a scoreless draw at the Cairo International Stadium owing to several missed chances from the hosts.

“We missed speed and playing our way against Dreams,” said the Portuguese boss.
“There were some technical errors and we did not play optimally, but we had many positions that qualified us to win and decide the match.”

Gomes conceded that his team needs to improve their finishing after they were unable to find the back of the net in the initial leg of the semifinal held on Sunday.

“Unfortunately, we were not able to achieve victory and the first half of the semi-final match ended,” added Gomes. “We now need to focus and play the second half well in Ghana.”

The Portuguese tactician is however confident the team will be at their best when they visit Ghana for the return leg set to be held in Kumasi at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, April 28, 2024.

“Things will be very different in the return match, especially with the grass, humidity and temperature, and even if things are like that, I trust the players,” he said.

“We expected more from the players in the match regarding the way we played. We had many chances and did not score, and it is possible that we will score in Ghana, even if at least one goal.”

Meanwhile, Dreams FC walked away as the happier side at least until the outcome is determined in the second leg as they continue their quest to extend their history beyond the semifinal.
