There has been a shooting incident close to England’s planned 2026 FIFA World Cup base in Kansas City, and has left nine people injured, according to local police, just weeks before the Three Lions are scheduled to arrive in the city.

Authorities say officers were dispatched to reports of gunfire along Troost Avenue at approximately 4am on Saturday morning. On arrival, police found a large crowd dispersing from the scene.

The Kansas City Police Department confirmed that nine adults sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby hospital for immediate treatment. Officials added that all the injuries are non-life threatening.

As of Saturday, no arrests had been made, with investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident still ongoing.

The location of the shooting is reported to be a short distance from the hotel and training facilities England will use during the World Cup.

Gareth Southgate’s side are currently finalising preparations in Florida and are expected to relocate to Kansas City on June 13, where they will be based for the duration of the tournament.

England recently edged New Zealand 1-0 in a warm-up friendly thanks to Harry Kane’s first half goal and will conclude their preparations with a final friendly against Costa Rica before heading into the competition.
