Accommodation has been and continues to be one of the major challenges confronting quality education delivery in the country. To help address this challenge, the Ghana Gas Company has as part of its corporate social responsibility, cut the sod for the construction of an eight-unit accommodation project for teachers at Nkodwo Basic School in the Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam District of the Central Region.

The project, according to the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District Chief Executive, Reverend Ransford Kwesi Nyarko, and the contractor, Benjamin Boafo, is expected to be executed within a matter of three months from the sod-cutting ceremony.

The District Chief Executive, Reverend Ransford Kwesi Nyarko, in his welcome address, disclosed writing to the Ghana Gas Company barely a year ago for support. Hence the project cannot be associated with a political gimmick. He expressed the hope that once the project is completed, it will help address tardiness and other challenges that day teachers go through in the public schools in the country.

Reverend Ransford Kwesi Nyarko noted that Nkodwo as a community has derived other projects like a six-unit classroom block, a borehole water project, and a few others within the era of the NPP’s tenure in office. To enable the community to continue benefiting from such projects, he called on the citizenry and the traditional rulers to vote for the NPP in the upcoming 2024 elections.

The chief of Nkodwo, Nana Takyi Essúmang ii, expressed the hope of the government’s ability to execute the project within the stipulated time. This, according to him is based on support received earlier.

He assured the contractor of the needed support from the inhabitants to ensure that the project was commissioned within the targeted time. He, however, pleaded with the contractor to consider employing some of his subjects at the construction site.

The Human Resource Officer of the District Education Directorate, Stephen Barnet, on behalf of the District Director of Education, Mrs. Sabina Wilson, thanked both the government and the Ghana Gas Company for their support. The move according to him stems from the fact that accommodation, poor telecommunication network, and transportation challenges continue to be setbacks to the realization of the expected quality education in the country. The candidate for the area, Dr. Rashid Etuaful, recounted the benefits that the area stands deriving from the project. He therefore pleaded with the inhabitants to reciprocate the kind gesture by voting massively for the NPP in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.

The CEO of BM Bency Company Limited, Benjamin Boafo, after taking the inhabitants through the components of the project pledged to complete it within a matter of three months. The pledge according to him stems from the fact that all input needed for the project had been procured. Hence, he does not have any excuses to give rather than to start the project without delay. Mr. Boafo noted that each of the eight-unit bedrooms would enjoy a kitchen, toilet, and bathroom in it. He further assured the community that a bore-hole water project would be drilled for teachers to occupy the eight rooms.

As customary demands, the contractor showed a courtesy to the traditional council by donating two bottles of Schnapp drink an unspecified amount in an envelope to the chief of Nkodwo, Nana Takyi Essúman II.
