Hiplife musician, Shyy of ‘Nkasei’ music fame has disclosed the kind of work he does in the United Kingdom after 18 years of abandoning his music career following the Nkasei music group’s controversial hit song “Tuabodom”.
Tuabodom became a very popular song in the early 2000s but also ended the music career of the duo.
Shyy, whose real name is Kwame Godlove Yeboah Prah, and his partner Isaac Mensa alias Naa K were almost dragged to court for composing the song as residents in Tuabodom community became angry over the song.
They regarded the song as disrespect and an affront to their community, also a distortion of their historical facts especially where a portion of the music lyrics referred to the capital of Tuabodom as Jinijini.
Following almost a yearlong controversy, the music duo separated with they traveling abroad to pursue their personal careers.
Laying bare for the first time what he went through in the United Kingdom, Shyy noted that his celebrity status didn’t attract any preferential treatment of him in the country as he was compelled to do menial jobs.
He told Abeiku Santana in an interview on “Ekwanso Dwoodwoo” drive show on Okay FM that how he survived abroad was to wash cooking utensils at a mental hospital.
He also worked as a cleaner despite his popularity.
“When I went abroad, I began with cleaning. I was cleaning 17 toilets. After the 17 toilets, I washed utensils at a mental hospital and moved from washing to doing a construction work. In fact, a lot of people in Briston often saw me digging the ground; I even did some of the work (contruction) on Liverpool street and so forth…Many Ghanaians saw me while I was doing it. A lot of people could even call me from Ghana to find out if indeed this was the work I was doing and I replied that, yeah, it’s true because you can’t survive if you don’t do that”, he said.
Shyy further revealed that he currently works as a CCTV operator in the UK but is back to his music roots with a release of a new EP titled “Tales of Heaven”.
